Get to know Derek
I’m a credentialed Special Education teacher and an Autism Fitness Certified Pro specializing in strength training and intentional movement coaching — a structured approach that helps individuals develop the ability to plan, organize, and execute movement with greater independence and confidence in a social setting.

My work goes beyond traditional fitness. Many of the athletes I support experience challenges with motor planning, coordination, sequencing, and body awareness — skills that are essential for both daily life and meaningful participation in social and community settings.

I design coaching sessions that directly support:

-
Motor Planning (Praxis) — supporting athletes in exploring and carrying out movement with greater confidence and intention
-
Sequencing & Multi-Step Actions — helping break movements into manageable steps and building them into more fluid patterns over time
-
Body Awareness & Spatial Control — developing awareness of body position, balance, and movement in space
-
Timing, Rhythm & Coordination — encouraging smoother, more connected movement experiences
-
Movement for Regulation & Engagement — using physical activity to support focus, participation, emotional regulation, and overall well-being
-
Reflex Integration-Informed Activities — incorporating movement activities designed to support coordination, balance, and foundational movement skills
-
Creative Play-Based Activities — encouraging active play, creativity, exploration, and reduced screen dependence
-
Social Connection & Communication Skills — creating opportunities for interaction, teamwork, confidence-building, and meaningful social engagement

My coaching is rooted in the belief that we should always presume competence. I use multimodal and text-based communication strategies when appropriate and prioritize respectful, individualized communication that supports each athlete’s unique strengths and learning style. No two athletes are alike, and every coaching experience is adapted to support confidence, participation, and meaningful growth.

Let's Begin with a Conversation
Complete the form below to begin, and once submitted, we’ll send you a brief questionnaire to gather more details about your loved one’s needs and goals. From there, we’ll schedule a time to meet in person to better understand how we can provide the right training to meet those goals. After that, we’ll agree on a session rate based on factors like level of support, your budget, and travel distance. From there we can begin this journey together.
